The Henry County Water Authority (HCWA) was founded in 1961 by an Act of the General Assembly of the State of Georgia, to "acquire, construct, and thereafter operate and maintain projects embracing sources of water supply and the distribution and sale of water and related facilities." The Act goes on to list the other duties of the Authority, including that to establish a sewer system.
Thus, Henry County was able to begin the process of planning and constructing a water and sewerage system capable of accommodating the needs of local citizens, and protecting the watersheds in order to ensure clean sources of water for Henry County residents and businesses. This enormous responsibility is still ongoing as the population of Henry County continues to soar.
The HCWA headquarters are presently located one mile west of I-75, exit #218, at 1695 Highway 20 West, McDonough, Georgia 30253. All full-time managers, employees and staff of the Authority can be contacted through the headquarters at 770-957-6659. Office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
