Belt Press Operator
Under direct supervision of the Lead Belt Press Operator and the Water Reclamation Compliance Superintendent, operates belt press to dewater sludge produced by all HCWA wastewater treatment plants.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Operates belt presses to insure optimum performance while de-watering bio-solids.
- Adjust chemical dosages to maintain driest possible bio-solids and to keep costs down.
- Performs solids tests on conditioned and pressed sludge to determine moisture content.
- Cleans and performs inspections to maintain belts in good working condition.
- Performs daily inspections of pumps, roller bearings, chemical feeders and hydraulics.
- Ensures proper chemical inventories and notifies Supervisors when orders are needed.
- Enters work orders to Maintenance when repairs are needed on equipment.
- Washes down belt presses and work areas daily to ensure a safe working environment.
- Maintains daily log sheets to record events and happenings.
- Ensures bio-solids are land applied at agronomic rates to each site as calculated annually to meet all EPA 503 regulations.
Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be at least 21 years of age.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office and wastewater operational software.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Valid Georgia Driver's License required. Class A or Class B CDL strongly preferred. Georgia Wastewater Operator License Class III preferred or ability to obtain within eighteen (18) months.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to extreme cold and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
