John Blount, Board Member
John Blount is a self-described servant, looking for avenues in which he can serve his Creator and Community.
A licensed and ordained minister, Mr. Blount joined the Henry County Water Authority (HCWA) Board of Directors in January of 2025, following his appointment by District 4 Henry County Commissioner Michael Price. When searching for community boards where he could apply his talents, Blount says he was excited to receive an opportunity to join the governing board of the Henry County Water Authority.
“Initially, I didn’t realize how fascinating and impressive the operations are at the Henry County Water Authority when I first joined the board,” says Blount. “I’m learning how professional our employees are, and how well organized the structure of this Authority is, so we don’t want to see that broken. I want to do all I can to see that (the Authority’s culture) is protected.”
Following a career in the trucking industry as the owner of his own Blount Trucking Company, Mr. Blount spent time as a missionary in Jamaica, as well as working in evangelism for Ray of Hope Christian Ministries. He also has done community outreach and worked in ministry for Global Impact Christian Ministries. He was ordained in 2009, after completing his B.S. in Theology at Seed Faith Christian SCH of Ministry & Theological Seminary. He’s often speaking and preaching at different churches throughout the state.
Mr. Blount has a wealth of public service experience in addition to his business acumen, having most recently served eight years as an elected member of the Stockbridge City Council, where he was in office from 2016 thru the end of 2023.
His tenure on the Stockbridge City Council was a manifestation of his passion for organizing community services, he says. Among his many accomplishments while serving as a Stockbridge City Councilman, Mr. Blount says he is proud to have grown the Back-to-School Kickoff in Stockbridge into the largest of its kind in Henry County, in addition to cultivating the city’s Bingo Bash into one of the most popular senior events in the county as well.
But while on the Stockbridge City Council, he was perhaps most noted for outlawing smoking in cars with minors present, something he hopes will become a state law in Georgia. He also proposed the founding of Unity Monument Park on Rock Quarry Road in Stockbridge, because “we all should come together” to create a sense of community in Henry County.
These many initiatives he’s spearheaded through ministry, community outreach, and public service, reflect his approach to living, serving, and governing in his community – to leave it in a better place than how he found it.
“It’s a good feeling when you can leave something positive in your community that lasts,” he says.
Originally from Atlanta, Mr. Blount moved to Henry County in 2006. He and his wife Maryjo, who formerly worked with the Henry County Council on Aging, have three daughters and reside in Stockbridge.
