Atlanta Motor Speedway Keeping "Rivers Alive"

The Henry County Water Authority (HCWA), its Cubihatcha Outdoor Education Center, and Henry County Stormwater Management are joining forces in support of volunteers from Atlanta Motor Speedway (AMS) to host the 2019 Henry County Rivers Alive cleanup event at the Towaliga Water Plant and the Gardner Reservoir on Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2019. (Rain Date is Oct. 29.)

Volunteers will begin the morning with a tour of the HCWA award-winning Towaliga Water Treatment Plant, followed by two hours of work cleaning up around the Gardner Reservoir.

"This is a great way to give back to the community we live and work in," says Dustin Bixby, VP of Marketing and Promotion for Atlanta Motor Speedway. "It's an opportunity for us as a Speedway team to work toward a common goal, which is outside of our regular sphere of promoting and putting on events, and to grow as a team while we help make our community a better place."

The objective of Henry County Rivers Alive is to support the mission of the statewide Rivers Alive Campaign – Georgia’s Annual Waterway Cleanup targeting all waterways in the State, including creeks, streams, rivers, lakes, beaches, and wetlands.

The mission of Rivers Alive is to create awareness of and involvement in the preservation of Georgia’s water resources. Rivers Alive is a Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) Outreach Program.

"Rivers Alive enables the community to come together and leave waterways better than how they were found," says Lindsey Sanders, HCWA Environmental Compliance Coordinator. "It's a great mission to be a part of that creates an immediate, positive impact on our drinking water and ecosystem."

Georgia’s waterways, which include more than 70,000 miles of streams and rivers, provide us with water for finished drinking water production, recreational opportunities like fishing and canoeing, and natural resources that add to the quality of life and economic development in the State.
