Public Ed Events in March are Cancelled

After reviewing up to date information from health officials and local governments about the current Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Henry County Water Authority (HCWA) officials have canceled upcoming public education events scheduled during the month of March.

The Authority had planned to host a Fix a Leak Week Water Conservation and Customer Appreciation event on St. Patrick’s Day – Tuesday, March 17 – at the HCWA headquarters. But after continuous emergency response meetings by Authority managers, they decided to cancel the Fix a Leak Week event, as well as a visit from the Youth Leadership Henry class for a plant tour and service project, which was previously scheduled for this coming Saturday, March 21.

While these events would have been hosted on Authority property for a limited number of customers, Authority officials – like most others in the public sector – are erring on the side of caution.

HCWA officials reiterate what public health officials have been saying – that drinking water and wastewater treatment processes are not impacted by the Coronavirus. Thus, HCWA tap water is safe to drink. In addition, the HCWA has contingency plans in place. Those include preparations for employees to be on call to back up anyone who may contract the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19), so water and sewer services for utility customers will not be interrupted.

HCWA officials encourage customers to take recommended precautions to reduce the potential spread of the Coronavirus, such as the following:

* Clean your hands often

* Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.

* Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

* Stay home if you’re sick.

* Cover coughs and sneezes.

* Wear a facemask if you’re sick.

* Clean and disinfect frequently used or touched surfaces.

As another precaution against the potential spread of COVID-19, HCWA offices currently are closed until further notice.
