HCWA 2022 Kids Fishing Derby set for June 4

The Henry County Water Authority (HCWA) is hosting a Kids Fishing Derby on Saturday June 4, at the Cubihatcha Outdoor Education Center, located at 100 Collins Road in Locust Grove. Children and youth 18 years of age and younger are invited to attend this free event.

The Authority’s Cubihatcha Center is sponsoring, with the help of the ‘We Need 2 Read’ Program (Greg Street) and ‘Teach a Child to Fish’ (Kendall Newson). Check in and registration is at 6:30 a.m., with the competition beginning at 7:00 a.m., when lines are cast. The weigh-in to determine winners will be held at 11:00 a.m., followed by lunch at 11:30 a.m.

No fishing licenses or HCWA Reservoir Use Permits are required to fish during the Kids Fishing Derby, because the event is being held on one of the select days of the year that the Georgia Department of Natural Resources does not require a license to fish any of Georgia’s waters. These select free fishing days during the year are designed to promote the sport of fishing, while encouraging outdoor recreation.

The 2022 HCWA Kids Fishing Derby participants will fish the Long Branch Reservoir on the site of the Authority’s Cubihatcha Center. The reservoir has been stocked with catfish, bass, bream, and crappie. Participants and their adult guests should bring their own chairs, bait and tackle for bank fishing only.

More information, including a registration form and waiver, is available here
